Needlewomen in the Fields – When Needle Spark

14 March – 14 June, 2026
The 25th Biennale of Sydney, themed REMEMORY, explores how to reconstruct and reclaim histories that have been erased or suppressed. This year, several Taiwanese artists are participating in the Biennale including — CHEN Chieh-jen, HOU I-Ting, CHANG Wen-Hsuan, and CHANG En-Man.
HouITing (b. 1979) continues her sustained focus on the conditions of women's labour across different socioeconomic systems. Needlewomen in the Fields – When Needle Spark traces the textile history of Sydney through the artist's on-site research, while the sound installation All the Ladies centres on songs of female labour among women who have migrated to Australia.
